01 · FAQ
What is a test minute?
One minute of one test running. Tests run in parallel, and each one gets 2 vCPUs of compute. Machine boot, installs, and idle time are not billed.
How does that compare to my CI?
Cheaper in two ways: a lower rate per minute, and you only pay while tests run.
Each test gets about what a 2-core GitHub Actions runner has. That runner costs $0.006 a minute ↗, billed for the whole job.
| GitHub Actions | Empirical | |
|---|---|---|
| Billed for | Whole job | Test time only |
| Checkout, install, browsers | Billed | Free |
| Rounding | Up, per job | None |
| Per minute | $0.006 (2 cores) | $0.005 (2 vCPUs) |
What is an AI credit?
AI credits measure agent work: writing, fixing, and triaging tests. Running tests does not use AI credits.
What happens past the allowance?
Extra usage is billed per unit: $0.01 per AI credit, $0.005 per test minute.
Can I cap my bill?
Yes. Set a monthly billing cap on overage.
Where does the test code live?
In a repo in your GitHub org, on every plan.
What is Cloudprem?
Test runs on infra in your own cloud account. Available on Custom.
